Labels : Persuasive Design Pattern #21
Design Patterns That Influence Human Perception
Labels are everywhere. Everything and everyone has a label. Your name is a label given to you. Your product's name is the label given to the "unit of value" you are creating for the world. Your brand name is the label you have given to your company.
The world of commerce cannot move without a label. It is a 'unique identifier' that helps people remember you or your product.
In today's Persuasive Design Pattern #21, "Labels Design Pattern" is a strong one.
When you want people to pay attention to a single piece of information in your entire communication, use Labels. No matter where you place it, the audience will pay attention to it.
The reason? Sub-consciously we are always looking for labels everywhere. Whether it is the clothes you are buying, the parcel that just arrived, the nutritional information of the food you are eating, the ID card of an employee when they enter the office. All of these are labels that make us easy to identify what we are looking at.
At a very basic level, Labels is a deep rooted pattern we are always on a lookout for. And they are important to tell the world clearly what you are talking about.
Use it wisely, and you will reap exponential results.
